Most businesses assume that getting more leads means spending more money on ads. It makes sense on the surface. More budget, more clicks, more leads. But that equation only works when your campaigns are already running efficiently. When they’re not, throwing more money at the problem just means paying more for the same underwhelming results.
This is exactly where one of our clients found themselves. A company in the drone entertainment and events industry was spending roughly $8,000 per month on Google Ads and generating around 32 conversions. That works out to about $248 per lead. Not terrible for their industry, but far from efficient.
By January, just five months later, they were generating 63 conversions on slightly less budget. The cost per conversion dropped to $120. And the quality of those leads improved dramatically at the same time.
No budget increase. No new ad platforms. Just smarter PPC management that made every dollar work nearly twice as hard.
When we first audited the account in August 2025, the numbers told a clear story. The campaigns were generating clicks but not converting them efficiently. Keyword targeting was too broad, pulling in searches from people who were never going to book a drone show. The budget was being spread across too many campaigns without enough focus on the ones actually driving revenue.
On top of that, bot traffic was a serious problem. Fake clicks were consuming a meaningful portion of the ad spend every single month, and nobody had caught it. Every dollar eaten by bots was a dollar that could have gone toward reaching a real potential customer.
The account wasn’t broken beyond repair. It just needed someone to get in there, clean house, and build a strategy focused on actual performance rather than vanity metrics.
The transformation happened through consistent, hands-on optimization over five months. No magic switch, no secret hack. Just disciplined PPC management applied week after week.
We started by restructuring the keyword strategy from the ground up. We cut broad match keywords that were attracting irrelevant traffic, built out a proper negative keyword list to stop the account from bleeding money on searches that would never convert, and refocused the budget on high-intent terms that aligned with what the client’s actual customers were searching for.
This alone started moving the needle on cost per conversion within the first few weeks.
We restructured the campaigns to create tighter ad groups with more relevant messaging. When your ad copy closely matches the intent behind the search, your quality scores go up, your cost per click goes down, and your conversion rates improve. It’s the kind of foundational work that compounds over time and makes everything else in the account perform better.

This was a big one. We deployed strict anti-bot software to filter out fake clicks before they could waste any more of the budget. In some Google Ads accounts, bots can eat up to 30% of real ad spend without anyone noticing. For this client, eliminating that waste meant the real budget was now going toward real prospects.
We also helped petition Google for a refund on previously wasted click spend. Google rejected the request in this case, but the application is free, and it does work occasionally. We file it for every client because there’s zero downside, and the potential upside goes straight back into generating more leads.
The numbers speak for themselves.

The conversion count nearly doubled while the budget actually decreased slightly. Cost per conversion dropped by over half. And the quality of leads improved just as dramatically as the quantity.
Getting more leads means nothing if they’re the wrong leads. One of the most impactful changes we made had nothing to do with ad copy or bidding strategy. It was about lead quality.
During August and September, the client’s CRM logged 22 unqualified leads across those two months. These were bot submissions, spam entries, and inquiries from people who were never going to convert into paying customers. That averaged out to 11 junk leads per month, cluttering up the sales pipeline.
By December and January, that number dropped to just 9 unqualified leads across two months. The most recent month, January, had only 4. That’s a 186% improvement in qualified lead volume compared to where things stood before we took over.
More leads, lower cost, and a cleaner pipeline. That’s what happens when ad management focuses on quality at every level.
If your ad budget feels like it’s maxed out but your leads haven’t grown, the problem probably isn’t the budget. It’s how the budget is being spent. Smarter keyword targeting, tighter campaign structure, ongoing optimization, and proper bot protection can transform the same ad spend into dramatically better results.
